The crisis is escalating following the attacks on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, demanding the evacuation of UNIFIL troops from conflict zones in Lebanon.
Netanyahu stated that the army had repeatedly asked the UN to evacuate the soldiers and claimed that their presence in the region made them hostages of Hezbollah.
Meanwhile, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz reiterated that they considered Guterres persona non grata due to his failure to condemn Iran’s missile attack and his behavior, which he described as “anti-Semitic and anti-Israel.” Katz had announced on October 2 that Guterres had been banned from entering the country for not unequivocally condemning the missile attack.
As the region prepares for a potential Israeli retaliation following Iran’s recent missile attack, Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi stated in a post on X that Iran has “no red lines” when it comes to defending its people and interests.
