Former Prime Minister Siniora: Israel commits war crimes in Lebanon

1 Mins Read

Accusing Israel of committing “war crimes” in his country, former Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora warned that Lebanon could collapse if “appropriate” steps are not taken. Siniora, in an interview with the British media outlet Sky News, accused Israel of committing “war crimes” in his country following the recent air strikes by Israel on the headquarters of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force and other positions in southern Lebanon. “They killed many civilians in many places, the latest being two days ago,” Siniora said. Lebanon’s Hezbollah, allied with Hamas, began firing rockets at Israel on October 8, 2023, one day after Hamas launched an attack in southern Israel. Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have been escalating since then. The conflict escalated in September with a wave of attacks in which Israel killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and several top commanders. Siniora warned that Lebanon could collapse if “appropriate” steps are not taken to stop the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, at least 2,255 people have been killed in Lebanon since the conflict began, with over 1,400 deaths occurring since September. In rocket attacks on Israel, at least 54 people have died, more than half of whom were soldiers.
