2 Mins Read

The Brightest Comet in 13 Years, “Tsuchinshan-ATLAS,” will be visible to the naked eye from the Northern Hemisphere on October 11-12. With an impressive tail measuring 21 degrees in length, this comet will make its closest approach to Earth on October 12. The Turkish Space Agency (TUA) has announced that the comet known as “C/2023 A3” (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS), considered the brightest comet in the last 13 years, can be observed on October 11-12. According to a statement from the TUA’s social media account, Tsuchinshan-ATLAS reached a brightness of 0.4 magnitudes on October 2, surpassing the famous C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) comet from the summer of 2020. It was noted that from October 11 onwards, this impressive comet will be visible to the naked eye from the Northern Hemisphere. By around October 12, it is expected to make its closest approach to Earth at a distance of 0.47 AU, reaching its highest visibility to the naked eye. The statement emphasized that the 21-degree long tail of Tsuchinshan-ATLAS is approximately 42 times the diameter of a full moon. Due to its close approach to the Sun, it is noted that it heats up to form its impressive tail made of dust and ice. This comet is being hailed as a potential candidate to become one of the most impressive comets in history.
