President Erdogan, in a joint press conference with Serbian counterpart Aleksandr Vucic in Belgrade, stated that “We are experiencing a golden age in relations with Serbia.” Erdogan also addressed the Israeli attacks in Gaza, emphasizing the essential duty of the international community to end the ongoing massacre.
Following his meetings in Albania, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan traveled to Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. In Belgrade, Erdogan held a joint press conference with Serbian counterpart Aleksandr Vucic, during which 11 agreements were signed between the two countries.
Vucic opened the conference with a statement emphasizing Turkey as a country with which friendly relations are crucial, highlighting its significance on political, economic, Eurasian, and global levels. He expressed the hope for Turkey’s support in matters of peace and stability in the region.
President Erdogan, in his address, remarked that the current relations with Serbia mark a golden age. He commented on the exceeding trade volume of 2 billion dollars for two consecutive years, with efforts to reach the common goal of 5 billion dollars ongoing.
Erdogan stressed the importance of approaching recent tensions between Serbia and Kosovo with prudence and underlined the significance of Serbia’s approach in overcoming Bosnia and Herzegovina’s political fragility.
Addressing the Israeli attacks in his speech, President Erdogan stated, “It is crucial to put an end to the Israeli aggression, which tramples human dignity. The establishment of a Palestinian state with its capital in Jerusalem, based on the 1967 borders, is necessary. Nine countries have recognized the Palestinian state since October 7th, calling once again on those who have not done so to recognize Palestine. Ending the ongoing massacre is a primary duty of the international community.”
Emphasizing cooperation in defense industries with Serbia, Erdogan expressed, “We have resources, and Serbia has resources. By utilizing these resources effectively, we will move towards the future.” He also mentioned Turkey’s developments in UAV capabilities and warned against external attempts to dictate the contents of defense industry cooperation between Turkey and Serbia.
Following the press conference, the Turkey-Serbia Business Forum took place. President Erdogan reaffirmed that their trade volume has surpassed 2 billion dollars and they are in negotiations with Serbian authorities to reach the target of 5 billion dollars. Erdogan highlighted that the 11 agreements signed have strengthened the bilateral relations’ foundation.
