In Nevşehir, which is the leading region in pumpkin seed production in Turkey, the pumpkin seed harvest has been carried out in the Kaymaklı town. The Governor of Nevşehir, Ali Fidan, stated that they expect a harvest of 22-23 thousand tons of pumpkin seeds this year. Governor Fidan mentioned that agricultural production is carried out in an area of 3.5 million hectares, equivalent to 65% of the total area of Nevşehir. He also revealed that there are around 20 thousand registered farmers in the Farmer Registration System in Nevşehir. Governor Fidan highlighted, “53% of the agricultural products produced in our province consist of cereal products. Today, the pumpkin seeds we harvested are one of the most important products that received geographical indication as ‘Nevşehir Pumpkin Seeds’ in 2019.” Fidan pointed out that 37.5% of pumpkin seed production in Turkey is carried out in Nevşehir, with the country’s production reaching around 58 thousand tons, while in Nevşehir, they are at the top with a production of 22-23 thousand tons of pumpkin seeds. He expressed his expectation of maintaining this leading position with a similar yield this year.
