Putting an end to claims of a possible price increase for bread, Federation President Balcı announced that there would be no change in the price of bread sold at 50 lira per kilogram.
Halil İbrahim Balcı, President of the Turkish Bakers Federation, stated that there is no expectation of a change in bread prices this month. Balcı, who is also the Vice President of the Turkish Confederation of Craftsmen and Artisans (TESK), said at a press conference held at the Federation Headquarters that the recent increase in flour and input prices has been challenging for bakers. Pointing out that these increases make a rise in bread prices unavoidable, Balcı said, “We have conducted necessary studies with relevant institutions on what to do about these increases. We have been collaborating with our Ministry of Trade, Treasury, and Ministry of Finance.” Balcı added, “If a kilogram of bread is currently sold for 50 lira, it would not be possible to maintain this price at 65 lira. That would have a negative impact on bread.” Expressing the goal of being able to sustain the sale of this essential food item, bread, without increasing prices, Balcı emphasized that there would be no change in the price of bread sold at 50 lira per kilogram this month.
