Following her speech in the Swedish parliament, Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard was targeted by a tomato attack upon her return. Stenergard fled the parliament after the attack, and 3 individuals were taken into custody. Stenergard was speaking about a United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for an end to the illegal occupation of Palestinian Territories by Israel when the tomato attack took place. Reports in the Swedish media indicated that one person yelled, “Stop Israel, they are terrorists,” while another shouted, “Coward running away.” It was mentioned that the thrown tomatoes were in a bag and landed two rows behind Stenergard. Additionally, news reports stated that security in parliament apprehended 3 individuals involved in the incident, who were then handed over to the police. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson called for an investigation into the incident and emphasized the need for “strong measures” to ensure security within the parliament.
