The British broadcaster BBC canceled the planned interview with former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson due to host Laura Kuenssberg accidentally sending notes prepared for questions. Kuenssberg described the situation as “embarrassing,” while a BBC spokesperson stated that the mistake was “unacceptable.”

The British broadcaster BBC called off the interview with former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson after host Laura Kuenssberg mistakenly sent notes prepared for questions.

Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson came back into the spotlight after revealing in an upcoming memoir that Queen Elizabeth II had been diagnosed with bone cancer before her death in 2022.

Shortly after Johnson’s statement, the BBC, where Laura Kuenssberg serves as a former political editor and presents a news program on Sunday mornings, canceled the planned interview with the former UK Prime Minister. The interview was called off following Kuenssberg’s accidental sending of the questions to Johnson as a “message to the team.”

In a statement on social media, Kuenssberg expressed, “This is not only frustrating as there are many important questions that should have been asked, but it is nothing but shameful and disappointing. However, beyond shame, honesty is the best policy.”

A BBC spokesperson stated in a released statement that the mistake was “unacceptable,” revealing that both the BBC and Johnson’s team agreed on canceling the interview.

The interview in question was scheduled to air this evening. Expected to address the government policy during the coronavirus pandemic and questions about the parties at Downing Street, the interview was also seen as a prelude to the upcoming memoir release of Boris Johnson, who served as Prime Minister in the UK between 2019-2022, hitting the shelves on October 10th.
