Limited Increase in Trade Deficit

Turkey’s trade deficit increased by 0.5 percent in September to reach 5.122 billion dollars. The trade deficit for the first 9 months decreased by 31.5 percent to 60.1 billion dollars. A decline in both export and import figures was observed in September.

Minister of Trade, Ömer Bolat, announced the trade figures for the month of September. The trade deficit in September saw a limited increase of 0.05 percent, reaching 5.122 billion dollars. The deficit was around 5.095 billion dollars in September of the previous year. Export in September decreased by 1.8 percent compared to the same month last year, amounting to 22.01 billion dollars. Import decreased by 1.4 percent to 27.1 billion dollars.

During the first 9 months of the year, exports increased by 3.2 percent to reach 192.8 billion dollars, while imports decreased by 8 percent to 252.9 billion dollars. The trade deficit decreased by 31.5 percent in the first 9 months to 60.1 billion dollars. The export-to-import ratio rose from 68 percent to 76.3 percent.
