In the district of Rasht, located in Iran’s Gilan province, 4 individuals lost their lives due to the consumption of counterfeit alcohol, while 20 people were hospitalized after being poisoned, with 6 of them in critical condition.

In Iran, 4 people died as a result of consuming fake alcohol.

According to the Iranian official news agency IRNA, Mohammad Taki Ashoubi, the spokesperson for Gilan University of Medical Sciences, stated that 20 individuals showing severe symptoms of poisoning from methyl alcohol were admitted to hospitals in the province. Ashoubi reported that 4 individuals lost their lives due to alcohol poisoning, with 6 of the patients currently undergoing treatment in critical condition and some requiring dialysis to reduce the severity of the poisoning. In Iran, where alcohol is prohibited, homemade or smuggled alcohol is commonly consumed.

It is mentioned that in alcohol production, methyl alcohol is sometimes used instead of ethyl alcohol due to its lower cost, leading to poisonings that can result in fatalities and vision impairments.
