The upcoming Austrian elections, where nine parties and three political formations will compete, are expected to see a far-right party emerge as the winner for the first time. The Freedom Party of Austria is projected to win the election with 27% of the vote.

In Austria, tomorrow’s general election is expected to see 6.4 million voters heading to the polls.

According to public opinion polls, the far-right Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) is expected to come out on top in the election.

The voting process, which starts at 06:00 local time, will end at 17:00. In the election featuring nine parties and three political formations, 4,700 candidates will be competing to enter the parliament consisting of 183 members. With the electoral threshold set at four percent in the country, recent surveys suggest that the far-right FPÖ is expected to receive 27% of the vote, while the center-right Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP), the major partner in power, is projected to receive 25% of the vote.

The Social Democratic Party’s (SPÖ) expected vote share is 21%, while the minor partners in power, the Green Party and the liberal New Austria Party (NEOS), are set to receive 9% each. Consequently, it is certain that for the first time in the country, a far-right party will emerge as the winner in a general election.
