The area damaged by the large-scale forest fires in South Korea is reported to be approximately 2.2 times larger than previously estimated, reaching 104,000 hectares. It has been revealed that the damage caused by forest fires in South Korea last month is greater than initially estimated. According to the Korea Forest Service (KFS), the area affected by the fires is more than double the previously estimated 45,157 hectares. It was announced that a total of 104,000 hectares burned, with 3,397 hectares in South Gyeongsang province, 90,289 hectares in North Gyeongsang province, and 1,190 hectares in Ulsan Metropolitan City. The region most affected by the fires was Uiseong in North Gyeongsang province with 28,853 hectares burned, followed by 26,709 hectares in Andong, 20,655 hectares in Cheongsong, and 16,208 hectares in Yeongdeok. The forest fires that started on March 21 in South Gyeongsang province of South Korea quickly spread to North Gyeongsang province, fueled by dry weather and winds, covering a large area in a short period of time. The fires, which claimed the lives of at least 31 people and injured many others, were described as the worst forest fires in South Korean history.
