2 Mins Read

Following the arson attack in Solingen, Germany, where four Bulgarian citizens of Turkish origin lost their lives, a criminal complaint was filed against police officials. Seda Başay Yıldız, the lawyer of the victims in the arson attack, stated that there is suspicion that evidence has been concealed and filed the complaint against Wuppertal police officials. According to the German News Agency (dpa), Yildiz handed the criminal complaint to the authorities after the 9th hearing of the 40-year-old suspect at the Wuppertal Regional Court. In the complaint, she accused the Wuppertal Police Chief and some officers of hiding evidence and expressed concern that there may be other clues. NAZI SYMPATHIZER IMAGES FOUND IN THE SUSPECT’S HOUSE The 40-year-old German suspect, D.S., who is in custody on charges of four murders and 21 attempted murders, had images showing antisemitic and far-right views on a hard drive found in his home during his previous hearing. During today’s hearing, it was reported that the Presiding Judge Jochen Kötter could not hide his astonishment at the Nazi sympathizer images and stated, “I must confess to you that this should not have happened.” ARSON WAS CONFIRMED According to the expert report in Solingen, the fire that occurred on the night of March 24th to March 25th in 2024 in the old building started in the stairwell. The fire spread to the roof within 5 minutes due to the “chimney effect.” Some residues were found in the wooden stairwell, leading to the conclusion that the fire was intentionally started through arson. Wuppertal Prosecutor Heribert Kaune-Gebhardt stated that they did not have evidence showing a motive of “xenophobia” related to the incident. In the fire that broke out in the 4-story building in the Höhscheid district, 4 people of Turkish origin, including 2 children, from the same family lost their lives, and 9 people, including 2 severely, were injured. The suspect, who is suspected of setting fire to the building, is held responsible for the deaths of 4 Bulgarian citizens of Turkish origin aged 28, 29, a baby, and a 3-year-old child, as well as the severe injuries of 3 others in the same fire. Due to the presence of 21 people in the building at the time of the incident, the suspect is also charged with 21 counts of attempted murder.
