According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, 43% of participants stated that they approve of Trump’s presidency and policies, marking the lowest rate since the beginning of his second term. The latest public opinion survey revealed that the public support for U.S. President Donald Trump continues to dwindle. Based on the results of the Reuters/Ipsos poll, the percentage of participants who approve of Trump’s presidency and policies dropped to its lowest level since his re-election on January 20, 2025, at 43%. The survey, which lasted three days and closed on Wednesday, April 2, showed that support for Trump decreased by 2 points compared to the survey conducted on March 21-23, and by 4 points compared to the survey conducted right before January 20. Reuters suggested that these results reflect the dissatisfaction triggered by the revelation that senior security officials in the Trump administration discussed the President’s tariff policies and airstrikes targeting Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen through the encrypted messaging service Signal.
AMERICANS WORRIED ABOUT ECONOMIC POLICIES
The highest support for U.S. President Donald Trump, a Republican, was recorded at 49% soon after assuming office in January 2017. The lowest support during Trump’s first term was reflected at 33% in December 2017. Participants in the Reuters/Ipsos poll particularly criticized Trump’s economic policies, with only 37% approving of them and 30% supporting his actions against rising costs of living. Additionally, 52% of respondents expressed concerns that increasing tariffs on vehicles and parts could harm their relatives. One-third of respondents, predominantly Republican supporters, stated they did not agree with this statement.
“SIGNALGATE” EFFECT IN POLL RESULTS
Participants were also asked about the emerging incident known as “Signalgate,” where National Security Adviser Mike Waltz added Jeffrey Goldberg, the Editor-in-Chief of The Atlantic, to a Signal group discussing attacks on the Houthis. When queried about this issue, 74% of participants, including 91% of Democrats and 55% of Republicans, considered the handling of the attack plans in such a manner to be reckless. Only 22% believed it was harmless, while 70% argued that Trump should take responsibility for the incident. According to the poll, the approval rate for Trump’s foreign policy approach decreased by 3 points to 34% compared to March 21-23, while 48% of participants approved of his stance on immigration.
Reuters/Ipsos’ latest poll was conducted online nationwide, with 1,486 adults responding to the survey questions. A margin of error of 3 points was reported for the poll results.
