White House Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt made a statement regarding the reciprocal customs tariffs that will start tomorrow. Leavitt said, “April 2, 2025, will be recorded as one of the most important days in modern American history.”

During a press briefing at the White House, Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt answered questions on reciprocal customs tariffs. Referring to the reciprocal tariffs that will start tomorrow, Leavitt argued that the United States has been unfairly taxed by many countries on customs duties. Describing how this changed with the election of President Donald Trump, Leavitt stated that now they will apply taxes in the amount that each country had imposed on the US.

“THE DAYS WHEN AMERICANS WERE ROBBED WILL BE OVER” Leavitt stated, “April 2, 2025, will be recorded as one of the most important days in modern American history. Our country has been one of the most open economies in the world, with the best consumer base, but many foreign countries closed their markets to our exports. This is truly an unfair situation. This situation is now changing.” The American spokesperson, who commented, “The days when Americans were robbed will be over starting tomorrow,” stated, “If you produce your product in America, you will not pay customs duties. It’s as simple as that.”

“AMERICA’S REAL INDEPENDENCE DAY” Leavitt mentioned that due to Trump’s policy, major companies have already announced billions of dollars in investments in the US to avoid paying customs duties, and this will continue. She noted that this policy will ultimately serve the interests of the American people and everyone will be satisfied with it. President Trump had announced that on April 2, known as “America’s real Independence Day,” reciprocal customs tariffs would start and a 25% tariff on cars not produced in the US would also begin on this date.
