2 Mins Read

Scandalous slogans directed at Turkey by Greek petty officers during a military parade in Athens caused outrage. A disciplinary investigation has been launched against the soldiers, with Greek opposition criticizing the army leadership.

A section of the Greek Naval Petty Officer School unleashed profane slogans during a military parade in Athens yesterday, sparking outrage. Videos shared on social media showed the group chanting “Cyprus belongs to Greece” and using vulgar language towards Turkey. Sources from the Greek Ministry of National Defense confirmed the authenticity of the videos containing the profanities. According to the Greek press, the Greek Navy General Staff initiated a sworn administrative investigation to examine the circumstances and reasons behind the profane slogans, determine responsibilities, and enforce appropriate disciplinary measures.

Government sources also commented on the incident, stating that “Strength is not reflected through slogans.” Michalis Katrinis from the opposition PASOK-Change Movement reacted to the event.

“REACTION TO EXTREME ELEMENTS” Katrinis shared his reaction on social media, stating, “The Armed Forces need officers with high levels of professionalism and competence, not extreme elements.” Criticizing the leadership of the Ministry of National Defense, Katrinis wrote, “The profane slogans heard during the military parade confirm that the Ministry of Defense failed to exercise control and oversight. Later actions do not salvage the situation or alleviate negative impressions.

The opposition party in Greece, the Radical Left Alliance SYRIZA, also deemed the slogans unacceptable and called for an investigation into the incident.

STATEMENT FROM TURKEY Sources from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the slogans chanted during the parade in Athens as “insolent.” Information obtained from the sources emphasized that such behavior, aimed at sabotaging Turkey-Greece relations, is unacceptable, and explanations were sought from Greek authorities.
