Armenia’s parliament initiates EU membership process

After approval by the cabinet in Armenia, the proposal for European Union membership was also endorsed by the parliament.

The Armenian parliament approved the draft law on “Initiating Armenia’s Membership Process to the European Union” in its second and final reading.

Following the first reading, it was reported that 64 members of parliament voted “yes” while 7 members voted “no” for the rephrased preamble of the draft.

The Armenian Cabinet had approved the draft law on January 9th and sent it to the parliament for further consideration.

During the session on February 12th, the parliament conducted the first reading of the draft law. In order for the draft to be considered a law, 60,000 signatures were collected by civil society organizations.
