Exporters from Southeastern Anatolia, covering 68.8% of Turkey’s pasta exports, aim to exceed 1 million tons in foreign sales this year. According to the Southeastern Anatolian Exporters’ Associations (GAİB) data, Turkey exported a total of 1,457,862 tons of pasta last year, yielding $939,513,000 in revenue. Southeastern Anatolian pasta exporters, accounting for 68.8% of this export, sold 1,023,436 tons of pasta last year, generating $608,596,000 in earnings. Starting the new year swiftly, exporters from Southeastern Anatolia earned $95,042,000 from the export of 162,565 tons in the January-February period, showing a 7.6% increase compared to the same period last year. President of the Southeastern Anatolia Cereal Pulses Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association, Celal Kadooğlu, stated that Turkey’s pasta exports in the first two months of the year amounted to $144 million. Kadooğlu emphasized that Turkey possesses the highest-quality durum wheat in the world and has superior production infrastructure at competitive prices, stating, “This is a great opportunity for both Turkey and the neighboring countries. In Southeastern Anatolia, we export half of Italy’s pasta volume every year. With our price performance quality, we consistently expand our market reach, especially in the African market.” Describing a significant portion of pasta exports to countries like Ghana, Togo, and Benin, Kadooğlu said, “We export to the Economic Community of West African States members. As we enter different markets, our export volume continues to grow as we reach larger populations. We believe that this year our pasta exports, which reached 162,000 tons in the first 2 months, will exceed 1 million tons.” Kadooğlu also mentioned that despite experiencing the lowest February rainfall in Southeastern Anatolia in the 2000s this year, the production of pulses continued smoothly without any issues affecting product quality in the fields.
