In Ecuador, leaked oil from a damaged pipeline mixed with the river, causing it to flow black. Fishermen can no longer fish due to pollution. The South American country of Ecuador has seen the river turn black in the northwestern Esmeraldas province due to oil pollution. Concerns are rising over the pollution caused by the damaged pipeline due to heavy rainfall and soil erosion. Although the flow of oil into the pipeline has been stopped, worries persist about the long-term effects of pollution in the area. Farmers are also at risk, and the pollution poses a threat to human health as well. Dozens of people with allergy symptoms visited hospitals when the leak first occurred last week.
