In Silifke, Mersin, the first almond blossom harvest of the year is taking place, with a fifty percent decrease in the yield being exported to Dubai. The collected almond blossoms are being sold for 200 Turkish Lira per kilogram. Grown entirely organically, especially in coastal areas for commercial purposes, the almond blossoms are finding buyers at 200 Lira per kilogram on the market stalls.
Starting sales 15 days earlier than previous years, the almond blossom is bringing smiles to the faces of producers. No chemicals or fertilizers are used in the cultivation of the almond blossoms, which are completely natural and organic. The headman of Işıklı Village, Ramazan Güner, stated that an expected yield of between 50 to 80 tons is currently projected. He said, “The public is showing great interest in almond blossom. It is pleasing for our sales. As the first fruit of the season, the prices are a bit high, so almond blossom enthusiasts are buying by the gram, not by the kilo. We anticipate that as the harvest of almond blossom increases in the coming days, prices will decrease. Due to agricultural frost, we have a fifty percent yield loss. The collected almond blossoms are being exported to Dubai both domestically and internationally for 200 Turkish Lira per kilogram.”
