The strawberries currently being harvested in Silifke, Mersin, are being exported to Russia at a price of 90 TL per kilo. The intense harvesting season has begun in Silifke, one of Turkey’s leading strawberry production centers. The strawberries, especially those grown using soilless farming methods, are having a productive season without being affected by agricultural frosts.

Carefully picked and packaged from the plant, the strawberries are being exported to Russia at 90 TL per kilo. Mustafa Yazıcı, a producer, stated that they are currently harvesting 7 tons of strawberries daily with 90 workers in the 90-acre soilless strawberry greenhouses. Yazıcı also mentioned that the yield will increase with the warmer weather, and the number of workers will reach 350.

Ibrahim Kaynar, the President of the Atayurt Hal Association, emphasized that there is a total of 6,000 acres of open field and 2,000 acres of greenhouse and soilless production areas dedicated to strawberry cultivation in the district. Kaynar mentioned expecting a yield of approximately 50,000 tons this year. Due to the cold weather last week, they experienced a 10-20% yield loss. Kaynar stated, “Despite a small amount of yield loss, our products have started to be harvested. We sell our strawberries domestically for 85 TL and internationally for 90 TL per kilo. Our products are going to Russia. We advise our farmers to have a productive production season. I wish for a fruitful season.”
