How did the return of Syrians affect rents?

1 Mins Read

In the town of Reyhanlı in Hatay, rents, which started to decrease with the return of Syrians, have begun to stabilize. Fleeing from the civil war in Syria that began in 2011 and seeking refuge in Turkey, Syrians continue to return to their country following the fall of the 61-year-old Ba’ath regime. The town of Reyhanlı, located at the zero point of the Syrian border, had become a refuge for the migrants. The return of Syrians to their country had an impact on rental and for-sale properties in Reyhanlı, where the population peaked following the earthquake. Housing prices, which quickly fell after the regime change, stabilized just days before the holiday. While gas-heated homes in Reyhanlı range from 10,000 TL to 15,000 TL, the prices of houses for sale start at 1.5 million TL. Real estate agents, predicting an upward trend in rent prices in the coming days, stated that apartment prices vary between 1.3 million TL and 2 million.
