President Donald Trump has signed a new decree to expedite the deportation of immigrants connected to a Venezuelan gang. However, the decree was blocked by a regional judge.
According to a statement from the White House, President Donald Trump invoked an authority that has only been used 3 times in history during a time of war.
The authority, dating back to 1798 and known as the Alien Enemies Act, grants the President advanced powers to target and deport undocumented immigrants.
The presidential decree targeting the Tren de Aragua gang in Venezuela labels the group as a foreign terrorist organization, predicting the capture and deportation of individuals allegedly connected to the gang.
However, this decree was blocked by a regional judge. The Trump administration is expected to appeal the decision to a higher court.
