2 Mins Read

The 14th anniversary of the Syrian revolution was joyously celebrated in many provinces, including Aleppo, Hama, Homs, and Latakia. After iftar, thousands of people gathered in central locations of Hama, Homs, Latakia, and Aleppo. Asi Square was the venue for demonstrations in Hama, while thousands filled the clock tower in Homs. In Aleppo, people flocked to Sadullahcabri Square, and in Latakia to Martyrs Square, all holding Syrian revolution flags.

Activist Meyse Mahmud, who has been actively involved in the revolution for 11 years, working to amplify women’s voices, expressed, “Today, we are not only celebrating the anniversary of the revolution, but also renewing our commitment, honoring our martyrs, and emphasizing that our struggle will continue.” Mahmud highlighted the significance of gathering in squares in Aleppo after years.

Muhammed Recep, also participating in the celebrations, mentioned the great struggle of the Syrian people, stating, “We can barely believe we have reached this day. After all the sacrifices and losses, the Syrian people deserve freedom and a dignified life.” Recep emphasized, “We are rebuilding our country that the toppled Assad and his gang destroyed. Today, we celebrate our victory and continue our fight to rid Syria of all forms of oppression, death, and destruction.”

The popular uprising against the Bashar al-Assad regime began on March 15, 2011, in Syria. The Assad regime responded to citizens’ demands for reform with repression and persecution, leading to the suppression of peaceful demonstrations by security forces, ultimately plunging the country into a civil war.
