Zelensky calls for increased sanctions on Russia

1 Mins Read

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the need for decisive measures to end the Russia-Ukraine War, calling for increased sanctions against Russia. In a written statement on his social media account, Zelensky noted that he spoke at the opening of an online meeting where world leaders discussed the Ukrainian issue in the UK, stressing that Russia must take steps towards peace. He urged world leaders who used the expression “decisive measures must be taken for at least the first steps to end the war, including sanctions,” to increase sanctions on Russia. Zelensky accused Putin of lying about the developments in the Kursk region, stating that there was no encirclement of Ukrainian military personnel in the Kursk region. He mentioned that he did not know exactly what was discussed in the ceasefire talks between US and Russian officials in Moscow and indicated that Russia wanted to prolong this process to put Ukraine in difficulty. Zelensky reiterated the need to establish European armed forces and emphasized that Putin does not have the right to decide on the deployment of foreign military units in Ukraine, mentioning that strengthening defense capabilities in Ukraine and across Europe could be possible within 3 years.
