Drunk Passenger Who Forced Plane to Make Unscheduled Landing Receives Heavy Penalty

1 Mins Read

A drunk passenger who forced a flight from England to Egypt to make an unscheduled landing in Athens will be fined £15,000. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, two hours after the Wizz Air flight took off from Gatwick heading to the Red Sea holiday destination of Hurghada. Witnesses reported that a woman, who had been drinking throughout most of the flight and had changed seats with another passenger, later displayed angry behavior and swore at the flight crew when asked to calm down. Subsequently, the pilot decided to divert the aircraft in the middle of the five-hour flight and landed the A321 in Athens, Greece.

Video footage obtained by MailOnline shows three police officers removing the passenger from the plane while other holidaymakers applaud and cheer. Wizz Air is now attempting to recoup the additional costs incurred due to the disruption in the schedule through court proceedings, including fuel, staff hours, hotel expenses, and other related expenses.
