More than 20 politicians, including the First Vice President of Zanzibar, were not allowed to enter Angola. A high-level political delegation from different countries was denied entry to Angola. The political delegation, which included the First Vice President of Zanzibar, Othman Masoud Othman, coming to attend a conference from different countries, was not allowed to enter Angola, while it was reported that more than 20 politicians were being detained. The delegation included the First Vice President of Zanzibar Othman, Tanzanian ACT Wazalendo Party leader Dorothy Semu, Mozambican opposition leader Venancio Mondlane, and former Botswana President Ian Khama, who went to Angola to attend a conference. However, the delegation was detained by officials at the airport and their passports were confiscated. Kenyan Senator Edwin Sifuna, who was part of the delegation, confirmed that he safely returned to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, after being deported. Sifuna noted that more than 20 politicians, including 9 Tanzanians, 5 Botswanans, 3 Basotho, 2 Malawians, 2 Britons, 2 South Africans, one Swazi, and one German, were still in detention. The Angolan government has not issued an official statement on the matter.
