OpenAI Requests Exemption from Trump: “Competition with China Would Be Negatively Affected”

2 Mins Read

OpenAI has requested a regulatory exemption from the Trump administration. The company is seeking privilege for firms collaborating with the government to ensure the United States does not fall behind in the artificial intelligence race.

The artificial intelligence initiative OpenAI has requested an exemption from the Trump administration.

OpenAI has asked for artificial intelligence companies to be protected from state regulations if they voluntarily share their models with the federal government. The maker of ChatGPT, OpenAI, presented a series of policy proposals totaling 15 pages to the Trump administration. According to a report on Bloomberg, it was stated that artificial intelligence regulations could have a negative impact on the United States’ competition with China. The company called for rules to be eased for artificial intelligence companies collaborating with official authorities.

Trump, who canceled the Biden administration’s artificial intelligence plan, had instructed the preparation of an artificial intelligence executive order plan by July. Additionally, it was indicated that the government needs to take steps to support artificial intelligence infrastructure investments.

Among the requests was included access for artificial intelligence companies to health information and other data held by the government. OpenAI warned that if Chinese developers have unrestricted access to data and American companies lack fair access, the artificial intelligence race would effectively come to an end.
