1 Mins Read

Greece’s new President Tasoulas began his duty by taking the oath from his predecessor, Sakellaropoulou. Elected as President by the Greek Parliament on February 12, Konstantinos Tasoulas swore in at a ceremony held in the parliament today. Following the oath ceremony, he officially assumed office with a ceremony at the Presidential Mansion. Tasoulas earned the position of the country’s new President with the support of 160 members in the 300-seat parliament vote last month. Tasoulas, born in 1959, had been elected as the parliament speaker three times before becoming a presidential candidate, receiving the highest parliamentary support ever. After being nominated as a presidential candidate by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Tasoulas had to step down from his role as parliament speaker. Tasoulas, who has a legal background, entered politics in the 1990s and became a member of parliament in 2000.
