In the US, a dog shot its owner with a gun. Officials reported that the man was injured when the dog’s paw got caught in the trigger while he was lying in bed.

An unusual incident occurred in the state of Tennessee, US. A man was shot by his dog. According to authorities, a man named Jerald Kirkwood was lying in bed with his gun when his one-year-old pitbull dog named Oreo’s paw got caught in the trigger guard of the gun and it went off.

BULLET GRAZED HIS LEG

Police reports indicate that there was a woman next to Kirkwood at the time of the incident. When the dog’s movement caused the gun to go off, the bullet grazed Kirkwood’s left thigh. The woman and the dog left the scene, with Kirkwood reported to be in stable condition and taken to the hospital.

“A PLAYFUL DOG SUDDENLY WENT CRAZY”

According to The Guardian, a woman who witnessed the incident stated in local news channels that Oreo is a playful dog who loves to jump and the gun went off without anyone realizing what was happening. The woman mentioned that they would make sure to keep all their firearms unloaded after the accident, emphasizing gun safety by saying, “Keep the safety on or use the trigger lock.”

SIMILAR INCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED BEFORE

This incident is not the first firearm accident caused by pets in the US. In 2018, a man in Iowa was shot in the leg while playing with his dog, and in 2019, in Louisiana, a hunting dog fired a gun standing in a vehicle, resulting in its owner losing a leg. With firearms being prevalent in the US, experts emphasize the need for more precautions in gun safety.
