Microsoft to Introduce Handheld Console: Next-Gen Xbox on the Way

3 Mins Read

Microsoft is making significant hardware moves to reshape the future of the Xbox world. According to reports sourced by Jez Corden, the company is focusing on two key projects to strengthen the gaming ecosystem. The first is the handheld console developed under the code name “Project Keenan.” The second is the next-generation Xbox, planned to be released in 2027.

A FRESH FACET OF GAMING EXPERIENCE IN XBOX: PROJECT KEENAN
Microsoft aims to produce a handheld computer compatible with many platforms for gaming rather than a unique operating system console like Nintendo Switch. It will be introduced under the Xbox brand but is currently being developed under the codename Keenan. According to industry leaks, Keenan will run on the Windows operating system and provide direct access to services like the Microsoft Store and PC Game Pass for users. Microsoft also wants the device to integrate with third-party gaming platforms. Jez Corden, the first to report the news, claims that gamers will be able to play games purchased from Epic Games or Steam on Microsoft’s new handheld console. Analysts believe that Microsoft developed this device not to sell games but to sell hardware and services. Many sources close to the company state that this handheld console will be released within 2025 and pose a direct competition to the Steam Deck.

“NEW GEN XBOX COMING IN TWO YEARS”
According to reports, Microsoft is continuing to work on a new gaming console, expected to be released in 2027. The next-generation console, which will inherit from Xbox Series S and X, will offer vastly superior graphic performance and processing power.

Microsoft aims for the device, set to be released in 2027, to be compatible with previous generation games. Additionally, one of the company’s goals is to further reduce the boundaries between Xbox and Windows platforms. This strategy could allow gamers to switch seamlessly between different devices within one ecosystem and experience uninterrupted gaming.

IMPACTS ON ECOSYSTEM AND COMPETITION
Microsoft’s two major projects are seen as strategic moves towards the general gaming ecosystem, rather than just releasing new products. Both Project Keenan and the next-gen Xbox console will provide tight integration among Xbox, Windows, and other relevant Microsoft services, offering users a seamless and comprehensive gaming experience.

Considering the fast-paced technological advancements and competitive environment in the gaming industry, Microsoft’s steps could potentially provide a significant advantage over its competitors through innovative hardware and software integration. While Project Keenan enhances mobile gaming experience, the 2027 generation Xbox aims to advance the existing console experience. Both products stand out as part of Microsoft’s vision to offer an integrated and innovative gaming experience across platforms.
