A fire that broke out as a result of a collision between an oil tanker and a cargo ship in the North Sea has not been extinguished for 24 hours. It was reported that the uncontrolled fire, caused by fuel leaked from the tanker, is still raging. Experts say that the jet fuel leaked into the sea is “alarming” and that “the cost of the accident could be severe”.
The UK coast guard stated in an announcement that the cargo ship that collided with an oil tanker in the North Sea on Monday is still burning. The statement from the coast guard mentioned, “The Solong (cargo ship) is still on fire and the fire on the Stena Immaculate has largely diminished.” The announcement emphasized that the firefighting efforts are continuing, stating, “Safety vessels and other ships with firefighting capabilities are still on the scene and more will arrive today.”

The fire that has been uncontrolled for 24 hours is said to be caused by fuel leaked from the tanker. A total of 36 crew members were rescued following the accident, with one crew member still missing.

CARGO SHIP WAS CARRYING “POISON”
It was reported that the cargo ship was carrying 15 containers of sodium cyanide and an unknown amount of alcohol. Sky News reported that there is an approximately 8-kilometer restricted area around the incident site, prohibiting access by air and sea.
