According to a report by UNICEF, access to clean water in the Gaza Strip has become nearly impossible. As the humanitarian crisis deepens in the region, millions of people are fighting to find water to survive. The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) announced that only 1 out of 10 people in the Gaza Strip can access clean and drinkable water, while 90% of the population struggles to access clean water to stay alive. An official from UNICEF in Gaza, Rosalia Poulin, stated in a report on the Palestinian official news agency WAFA that in November 2024, approximately 600,000 people had access to drinking water, but water resources were cut off again, worsening the humanitarian crisis in the region. Poulin emphasized that the water shortage in Gaza has reached critical levels, with only one out of every ten people currently able to access safe drinking water, and 90% of the population fighting to find clean water to survive. International humanitarian organizations highlight the vital importance of fuel for the displaced millions in Gaza to access clean water, health services, collecting waste that leads to diseases, and operating wastewater facilities. UN agencies state that more than 1.8 million people in the region, over half of whom are children, urgently need clean water and health assistance.
