5.87 BILLION EURO REVENUE
The professional football in Germany continued its growth trend by reaching record figures in revenue, taxes and fees, employment, and attendance numbers. The revenue of the 36 clubs in the leagues in the 2023-2024 season increased by 12% compared to the previous season, resulting in a revenue of 5.87 billion euros. The previous record was broken in the 2022-2023 season with 5.24 billion euros. It is also noteworthy that the clubs of the German Second Football League (Bundesliga 2) exceeded the 1 billion euro revenue threshold for the first time. Only 9 clubs in the first division and 8 clubs in the second division were profitable in the 2023-2024 season. A separate record was set with 62 thousand people employed through the clubs in the same season, resulting in a tax and fees contribution of 1.66 billion euros to the state treasury. The increasing interest of spectators contributed to the clubs’ ticket sales figures, breaking a record with 20.7 million tickets sold last season.
