Following the eruption, which took place approximately 50 kilometers southwest of the capital Guatemala City, spewing lava and a cloud of ash were captured by amateur cameras, while officials disclosed that 30,000 people are faced with the risk of evacuation. So far, no casualties have been reported, with many schools suspending classes as a precaution and hazardous roads being closed to vehicle traffic. Known as “fire” in Spanish and recognized as one of the world’s most active volcanoes, the Fuego Volcano experienced a major eruption in 2018, which resulted in the loss of 215 lives.
