Campaign was Initiated to Mock Trump: “California to Become Danish Territory”

2 Mins Read

In Denmark, a campaign called “Danmarkification” initiated by a group of friends has gathered nearly 300,000 signatures. The campaign aims to turn the state of California into Danish territory in response to Trump’s plan to purchase Greenland.

Amid the debates surrounding US President Donald Trump’s desire to buy Greenland, an autonomous region under Denmark, a group of friends launched a campaign called “attaching the state of California to Denmark” as a humorous response. The number of signatories joining the campaign has now reached close to 300,000. Greenland, as an autonomous region under the Kingdom of Denmark, frequently attracts attention due to its predicted rich underground resources and geopolitical importance in the Arctic region as its glaciers melt away. Trump’s remarks about the island being necessary for his country’s “national and even international security needs” have sparked reactions from Greenlanders, Danish officials, and various others. Among these reactions, a campaign launched by a group of friends in Denmark, called “Danmarkification,” and signed by over 270,000 people, is particularly drawing interest due to its humorous approach. The campaign’s website states that in response to Trump’s plan to buy Greenland, the state of California would be purchased from the US and turned into Danish territory.

In a statement that mentions Trump is not the “biggest fan of the California state, and would be willing to give it away for the right price,” it is noted that the target amount to be raised for this purpose is 1 trillion dollars. California, chosen for its warm and sunny climate, dominance in the technology sector, avocado production, freedom it offers, and the presence of the famous Disneyland, residents of the state are showing their support for the campaign with humor in their comments on social media platforms.
