Chinese researchers have discovered 6 new genera and 7 new species of bacteria in Antarctica. According to Xinhua, researchers from the Polar Research Institute of China (PRIC) revealed the findings of their work in Antarctica. By standardizing the preservation of over 3,500 variants of polar microorganisms, researchers collected around 30,000 samples from 185 genera. Emphasizing the importance of these microorganisms for biological genetic and genera diversity studies, the researchers highlighted the discovery of 6 new genera and 7 new species of bacteria in Antarctica through the analysis of samples collected during numerous expeditions.
