Iranian Parliament Speaker Kalibaf: Trump Aiming to Disarm Iran

2 Mins Read

During an open session of the Iranian Parliament, Speaker Mohammad Bagher Kalibaf stated that the US administration aims to disarm Iran under the guise of negotiations. Kalibaf discussed President Donald Trump’s call for negotiations with Iran, noting that while Trump claimed to have written a letter addressed to Iran’s leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the letter has not reached Iran yet. He emphasized, “We are not expecting any letter from the US and believe that the lifting of sanctions is possible through strengthening Iran and rendering the sanctions ineffective.” Kalibaf also criticized Trump’s negotiation plan with Iran, stating that the President’s behavior towards other countries reveals that these statements are part of a deception aimed at disarming Iran. Trump’s Call for Negotiations with Iran In an interview with Fox Business Network, Trump announced that he had sent a letter to Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Trump stated, “I wrote them a letter saying ‘I hope you negotiate because if we have to go to war, it will end up being a very nasty thing’.” The Iranian Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York responded to reports regarding Trump’s letter to Khamenei by stating, “We have not received any such letter so far.” A US official later speaking to the country’s media confirmed that Trump had indeed written the letter but had not sent it yet. Khamenei, describing the Trump administration as “untrustworthy,” had banned negotiations with the US, along with other top Iranian officials like President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who have repeatedly stated that they will not engage in negotiations under pressure or threats from the US. In a recent speech, Khamenei expressed that the US, under the guise of negotiations, seeks to impose its demands and dominate, emphasizing that Iran will not accept this.
