Satellite imaging company Maxar has confirmed that all satellite images shared with Ukraine have been blocked. This step was taken following US President Trump’s decision to freeze aid to Kiev. Maxar, the satellite imaging company, confirmed that all satellite images shared with Ukraine have been blocked as part of US President Donald Trump’s decision to freeze aid. The company stated that it has contracts with the US government and allied countries worldwide to provide satellite images and other geospatial data. It was noted that one of these contracts is through the “Global Enhanced GEOINT Delivery Program (GEGD),” which provides access to commercially collected satellite images for the US government, and that the US government has suspended the Ukrainian accounts in GEGD. The statement also indicated that aside from this situation, there have been no changes in contracts, saying, “There is no change in supporting our other customers or their programs or contracts.” Experts have evaluated that without Maxar images, drone operators will not be able to target accurately and intelligence services will struggle to assess Russia’s capabilities. Mark Cancian, a senior advisor on defense and security issues at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, stated that the indefinite suspension of US aid will cut Ukraine’s equipment purchases in half and weaken the military’s fighting capabilities. Trump issued the directive to suspend US aid to Ukraine on March 3rd.
