TikTok Scandal Trend Mocking Gaza Children by Israeli Influencers

2 Mins Read

According to a report on Middle East Eye, Israeli content creators have launched a new TikTok trend mocking children in Gaza who are under bombardment. In this new TikTok trend, Israeli influencers pretend to be representatives of a fictional humanitarian aid organization, calling their family members and friends to ask for donations for Palestinian children. The recipients often react with anger, shouting, and swearing, before exposing themselves in a humorous way in videos uploaded to the platform. One Israeli social media influencer, Yakir Bar Zohar, shared a video where he asked passersby to donate for children in Gaza. In a video that received thousands of likes and shares, a man agrees to donate to hungry children, but Bar Zohar questions if he is sure he wants to donate to “children who will become terrorists.” In another video released last week, a young woman asks her mother to donate for innocent children in Gaza. Her mother responds, “Innocent children in Gaza? There is no such thing,” then wishes for the children in Gaza to “die in agony, be stoned to death, and for all the people there to burn in hell.” In another video, the person who received the call says he would be happy to host children from Gaza at his home, adding that he would “tie them to a pole.” Many commenters find the videos funny or entertaining. Some users agree with the view that “there is no one innocent in Gaza, from young to old.” One comment reads, “I love this trend, I’m dying,” while another says, “I love the aggressiveness, racism, and humiliation.” While most comments support the videos, recent reposts on other social media platforms have been criticized as “hateful” and “dehumanizing.”
