The opening of the Iğdır-Nakhchivan Pipeline was carried out with a ceremony attended by President Erdogan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The completion of the pipeline, established through a partnership in the energy sector between Turkey and Azerbaijan, saw the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The ceremony was followed by the first gas flow through the pipeline.
During the event, President Erdogan congratulated the Azerbaijani people on the blessed Ramadan, emphasizing the significant developments in their brotherly relations. He highlighted the energy sector as a cornerstone in various projects, expressing joy in transporting Azerbaijani gas to Europe through TANAP. Erdogan expressed pleasure in adding a new project to this collaboration today.
Turkey is adding a new route to its natural gas exports with the completion of the Iğdır-Nakhchivan Pipeline. Following the completion, the gas needs of Nakhchivan will be met by Turkey with a capacity to supply up to 5 million cubic meters per day or 1.8 billion cubic meters per year. The pipeline will cover the annual 500 million cubic meters demand for natural gas in Nakhchivan, sufficient for the region’s entire population of 500 thousand.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev highlighted during the ceremony that the Oil/Gas pipeline projects not only connected their countries but also altered the energy map of Eurasia. He stated that the unity between Turkey and Azerbaijan is a significant contribution to the Turkic world, emphasizing President Erdogan’s crucial role in the unity of the Turkic world.
