52 children die of starvation in Gaza, death toll may rise

2 Mins Read

Since October 7, Israel’s genocidal practices in the occupied Gaza Strip have led to the deaths of 52 children due to malnutrition and hunger. Concerns are rising about an increase in deaths if food supplies are not secured.

Yusuf Abu Raysh, Deputy Minister of Health in Gaza, provided information on the humanitarian situation and health conditions in Gaza. He noted that 59% of essential medicines and 37% of medical supplies have run out in Gaza. With border crossings closed, the health conditions of 13,000 patients and injured individuals requiring transfers have deteriorated. It was highlighted that malnutrition increases the risk of death in children due to anemia, leading to the death of 52 children and the possibility of more deaths if access to food is not ensured.

274 BABIES BORN AFTER OCTOBER 7 HAVE BEEN KILLED

It was emphasized that 274 babies born after October 7, 2023 in Gaza have been killed in Israeli bombardments.

The essential sections of hospitals in Gaza need urgent oxygen stations to continue providing medical care to the wounded and ill. The lack of many emergency interventions and medical equipment has been hindering health services, putting them at risk of suspension due to fuel shortages.

The direct targeting of ambulances and humanitarian aid teams poses a significant obstacle to evacuating the injured. The destruction of water pipelines and environmental risks contribute to the spread of diarrhea and skin diseases.

PALESTINIANS DEPRIVED OF HEALTH RIGHTS

Furthermore, a written statement released by the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah on the occasion of “World Health Day” on April 7 highlighted that millions of Palestinians are currently deprived of their right to healthcare. It was stressed that women, children, elderly, and patients in Gaza face the risk of death due to the lack of hospitals and medication, as healthcare workers and first responders are systematically targeted. The statement called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities, stating that “The health of Palestinians is not a luxury, but a right guaranteed by international laws. It is time for the international community to act and put an end to this health and humanitarian disaster our people are facing.”
