In Kahramanmaraş Organized Industrial Zone (OIZ), 40 factories with solar power plants installed on their roofs meet 30 percent of their energy needs from the sun. Mustafa Buluntu, President of the Kahramanmaraş Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KMTSO), stated that energy is one of the most important input costs in industry. In this context, Buluntu said that entrepreneurs in Kahramanmaraş have made significant investments in clean energy. Buluntu noted that according to 2023 data, 471 million kilowatt-hours of electricity consumption took place in the OIZ where 70 factories operate, and he added that this year consumption will increase slightly. Buluntu explained that as part of efforts to use alternative energy sources, solar panels have been installed for 40 factories in the OIZ. He emphasized that these panels have a capacity of 82.1 megawatts, and the 40 factories with solar power plants currently meet more than 30 percent of their energy needs from the sun. Buluntu also stated that the annual energy needs of the OIZ are equivalent to approximately 25 percent of the total, with 202,000 solar panels and a capacity of 82.1 megawatts. Buluntu pointed out, “We have 70 industrial facilities in our Kahramanmaraş Organized Industrial Zone and a total of 98 industrial parcels. These factories also provide employment for 12,000 people. In 2022, Kahramanmaraş had achieved an export value of nearly 1.4 billion dollars. Hopefully, by the end of this year, we will have reached around 1.1 billion dollars. We are gradually gaining momentum back towards our former strength.”
