The American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla’s factory in the city of Shanghai, China, has reportedly crossed the threshold of 3 million vehicle production. An announcement from the company stated that the 3 millionth vehicle produced at the factory was rolled off the assembly line last night. The vehicle was mentioned to be a fully electric car under the “Model Y” brand. The statement highlighted that surpassing the 1 million vehicle mark at the factory, which started operations in January 2019, took over 30 months, while the transition from 2 million to 3 million with increased capacity was achieved in less than 13 months. The factory had rolled off its 2 millionth vehicle in September 2023. The number of cars produced at Tesla’s Shanghai factory reached 675,000 in the first 9 months, constituting more than half of the brand’s global vehicle production. The Shanghai factory stands as the company’s largest production facility outside the U.S. Vehicles manufactured here are exported to Asia-Pacific countries and Europe outside of China. Approximately 1 million of the 3 million vehicles produced at the factory have been sold in European and Asia-Pacific markets to date.
