Marly Garnreiter, a 27-year-old living in Paris, received the alarming response that she could have cancer when she asked the reason for her symptoms such as night sweats, itching, and weight loss on ChatGBT. After visiting a doctor out of concern, the unfortunate woman’s cancer was confirmed through tests. Struggling through difficult days after her father’s death, Marly initially thought her health issues could be related to grief. “Even though I was sticking to my normal eating habits, I was losing weight rapidly, but I thought it was due to my anxious state of mind,” said the young woman, attributing symptoms like night sweats, itching, and fatigue to the same cause. In May, Marly Garnreiter asked ChatGBT about her symptoms and received the response that she could have cancer from the artificial intelligence assistant. As she started to feel a pain in her chest over time, the young woman went to the hospital, believing that a real doctor needed to make a diagnosis. Following an examination, a “large mass” was found in Marly’s left lung. A biopsy later confirmed the cancer diagnosis for the 27-year-old woman. Starting chemotherapy on March 1st, Marly Garnreiter had also lost her father to cancer. Expressing intense anger towards life when the diagnosis was made, the unfortunate woman mentioned that she did not lose hope and would do everything in her power to recover.
